GALVA - James W. "Jim" Anderson, 84, Galva, died at 9:14 a.m. Monday (Dec. 4, 2006) in OSF St. Mary Medical Center, Galesburg.
He was born July 28, 1922, in Ethel, Mo., the son of Carl and Orpha Truitt Anderson.
He married Judith Mae Wills on Feb. 21, 1942, in Canton, Mo.
Surviving are his wife; three sons, Jack (and Judy) Anderson, Columbia City, Ind., Roy (and Judy) Anderson, Maricopa, Ariz., and Terry (and Linda) Anderson, Galva; two daughters, Janis (and Michael) Jones, Savanna, and Janet (and Richard) Carlson, Parker, Ariz.; 13 grandchildren; and eight great-grandchildren.
He attended school in Galesburg but left at the age of 14 to support his widowed mother.
He joined the Army in 1943 and served through 1945. He was a yacht captain for Gen. Buckner in Army's Navy during World War II.
He farmed for 20 years in the Galesburg area. In 1963, he became a sales representative for a company that later became part of Standard Oil, where he worked until retiring.
The family moved to Galva in 1970. After retiring, he and his wife spent winters in Mesa, Ariz., and lived in Galva the last two years.
He was a life member of the Masons and a member of Galva Lodge 243.
He enjoyed golf, cards and woodworking.
Service will be at 11 a.m. Saturday in Rux Funeral Home, Galva, with the Rev. Paul Sowden officiating. Visitation will be 6 to 8 p.m. Friday at the funeral home. Burial will be in Galva Cemetery, with military rites by the Galva Fusiliers.
Memorials may be made to First Baptist Church.
